SO WHY DID I START A CLOTHING BRAND?
I have always been fascinated by fashion. I was pretty ignorant on styling and creating a wardrobe. I always ended up just buying things that I genuinely liked. When I went out I would combine my favorite pieces and not care what it would look like. While there is no "rule" for fashion I do believe there are structures or templates that can provide a good foundation.
As I began college I was at a low point in my life. I was very restricted and limited due to my circumstances and I had a victim mindset. I told myself that I will do the opposite and instead of blaming everyone and everything for why my life the way it is, I decided to take control of my life and I sought out to try my best at anything and everything. If I still fail to achieve the results I was seeking then at least I can say I tried everything. Little by little I saw my life improve. My major at the time was Architectural Design. I really enjoyed it because it combined my creative and logical sides of my brain. That is when it clicked for me. I thought it would be really cool to make shirts and sweaters that were inspired by architecture. Things like floor plans, sections cuts, isometric views etc.
It was more of a cool idea and I did not expect it to be anything really. I just wanted to have clothes that would represent what I was studying. I showed some designs to my friends and they thought it was pretty cool. A co-worker was really excited seeing as he too wanted to make a clothing line. He wanted to partner up and I was even more motivated. He was willing to be the benefactor and I would do the designs, marketing etc.
I did not have a name so I gave him a list of names and told him to choose one. He ended up picking the name "OPUS." After doing some research, there were a lot of brands or businesses that were named OPUS. I let him know so I added "DIVINUS". OPUS DIVINUS translates to DIVINE WORK.
Sadly, that coworker was in a difficult time in his life and made some unwise decisions and past away. In a way I wanted to keep the name and brand going for him. He chose the name and it definitely grew on me. Later in life after a couple of incidents happened, they really brought me closer to GOD and it really makes me think that it came full circle.
OPUS DIVINUS is minimal streetwear with DIVINE inspiration. This is my way to spread the word of the LORD
